Between the pair of them, they’ve created a very personal home with a colourful retro style that contrasts with the building, which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. The apartment has two tiled stoves, high ceilings and lovely, large arched windows with lead inserts. “We love the apartment and the original decor even if our own style is completely different – it’s a really interesting juxaposition.” Comments Cicci, who can’t imagine living without her favourite colour (if you hadn’t already guessed, it’s orange!). Cicci has always been attracted by good design and secondhand items. Fortunately, both Cicci and Johan like the same style and the furniture they’ve amassed over the years has come together well.
The most expensive piece they’ve bought together as a couple was an old coffee table. “I think we gave £600 for it. A little expensive to end up in the store where it is now. But a simpler fleamarket find somehow suited our flat better,” says Cicci, whose interest in home decor grew from her many fleamarket trips with her father and his wife Katrin. “We’ve been to so many together. Johan also likes to go on a ea run, but he doesn’t manage to go to the same extent anymore” she remarks glancing over at Johan. “Cicci is so good at it, I simply hand over all the buying to her! I usually like everything she comes home with...” says Johan with a smile.
