Ewbank's - Fine Art Sale
THE ART SALE
On Thursday 25th April, Ewbank’s will hold a Contemporary Art & Modern British Paintings sale with works by artists including Salvador Dali, Banksy and Bridget Riley.
A signed screenprint by British artist Bridget Riley CH CBE is among the highest value pieces consigned for sale so far, entitled ‘And About’ and it has a pre- sale guide price of between £4,000 and £6,000.
Other key pieces in the auction include paintings by John Piper and Sir Terry Frost RA, from the vast collection of a deceased estate in North London. The collection was built by the vendor’s father throughout his life. Bought from galleries, auctions, markets and fairs, there were more than 1,000 paintings and prints in the house.
A print by elusive British street artist Banksy from the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, Palestine,
has an estimate of £800 to £1,200. It’s sold with an original numbered and stamped invoice, and a bar of soap from the hotel!
A piece by renowned British artist Laurence Stephen Lowry RA called ‘The Lonely House’, signed in pencil, with blindstamp for the Fine Art Trade Guild, is estimated at £600 to £800.
A 34cm high bronze sculpture by Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí called ‘Tripas y Cabeza’ (Guts and Head), has been valued at between £2,000 and £3,000. It’s signed ‘Dalí’ on the front of the sculpture, and is sold with a signed letter and certificate of authenticity.
The auction room is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm at the Burnt Common in Send just off the A3.
