South London’s Finest
For the last two years So Last Century has been holding regular vintage markets at Beckenham Place Mansion, an 18th century Palladian gem of a building, situated in wonderful parkland between Lewisham and Bromley, in South East London.
The unrestored nature of the Grade II listed Georgian house provides the perfect backdrop to the popular market, hosting around 25 top-quality, hand-picked dealers selling affordable mid-20th century decor, lighting and ceramics mixed together with antiques maps, brocante, vintage clothes and accessories, situated in the Dining Room, Drawing Room, Atrium and grounds outside.
The Mansion is also home to a small community of artists and businesses that take inspiration from the building and park landscape, and when the market is on, many open up their studios, as does the Sewing School, Visitor Centre and Record Shop.
There’s always plenty to eat and drink, with a cluster of street food vans, coffee and brownie stalls and ice cream outside. The Mansion Cafe and cavernous Basement Bar are always open, allowing more opportunities to relax and enjoy the bucolic setting.
August Bank Holiday brings another Vintage Market at the Mansion just before the larger So Last Century Vintage and Retro Fairs pop up in Croydon and Catford.
