The 1940s Relived

  • Brooklands Museum Brooklands Road Weybridge, KT13 0QN United Kingdom (map)

The closest thing to time travel has to be the 1940s Relived event at Brooklands Museum. The 32-acre site itself is a time capsule and this event brings that vintage era to life effortlessly. A huge dance marquee has a rolling programme of live singing, music and dance classes and this year there is a big band. The vintage village will have traders selling original clothing and memorabilia and there will even be a hair and beauty parlour and portrait studio. Brooklands’ own history is brought to life with the Hawker Hurricane, Wellington Bomber and original air raid shelters.

Also new for this year is the recently opened Aircraft Factory that tells the story of aviation design and manufacture at the site over an 80-year period. Expect scores of cars, motorcycles and buses from the era as well as countless re-enactor groups and Winston Churchill himself who will be judging the best-dressed competition. The music, food, dancing and vintage celebrations go on from 10am-9pm so if you only go to one vintage event this year, make sure you get along to Brooklands in May!
